Unai Emery answers whether now is a good time for Arsenal to face Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur make the short trip to the Emirates on Sunday in the first North London derby of the new season.

Both Spurs and Arsenal go into the match on the back of respective Premier League defeats to Newcastle United and Liverpool.

Ahead of the match, Arsenal boss Unai Emery was asked whether now is a good time to be facing Tottenham with the Spaniard giving a very diplomatic response.

Tottenham have certainly not managed to hit any sort of form this season after coming from behind against Aston Villa, scraping a draw at Manchester City which was followed by the Newcastle debacle.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side looked short of ideas in the final third of the pitch against the Magpies and were defensively at sea for the goal conceded.

Emery told Football.London: “For us, to play matches like last week against Liverpool and this week against Tottenham, the two teams who played the final of the Champions League last year, is amazing. I think it’s the best test and every time is a good moment to play against them. Sunday, with our supporters, I think is the best moment to play and enjoy with our supporters in that match, that derby. After that is for the football. I think maybe that on Sunday, that match is the best match in the world for all football supporters.”

Opinion

Mauricio Pochettino has to select the best eleven players available on Sunday and that means both Jan Vertonghen and Christian Eriksen must both start with Davinson Sanchez and Erik Lamela dropping out of the side.

Regardless of whether either play is set to head out of the door, when it comes to facing Arsenal there can be no excuses.
