It has been a few days since a story surrounding Jan Vertonghen’s rumoured switch to Spurs has been mentioned.
Following the sacking of Harry Redknapp there was some doubt among fans a possible deal for the Ajax skipper would go ahead but his agent has insisted that a deal is still scheduled to go ahead.
His agent believes that a deal is ‘very close’ between both clubs. Ajax have been holding out for as much as they can despite the defender only having a year left on his contract.
“Nothing has changed at all. He is coming to Tottenham for the club and not for the manager,” his agent Mustapha Nakhli told the press.
“Managers come and go. Of course Jan is sorry that Harry Redknapp is no longer there but he is going for the club.
“We have a good relationship with Daniel Levy. He wants the deal to happen and there is a good atmosphere (between us).
“I don’t know when it will happen but the deal is close, very close.”
