Video: Former Chelsea striker claims Spurs have failed to replace key player

Tottenham Hotspur’s tough start to the new season continued on Saturday after being outplayed and outclassed by Brighton.

After being destroyed 7-2 on Tuesday night by Bayern Munich, there was no signs of a change of fortune for the North London side.

Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has claimed that a lack of character was missing from Mauricio Pochettino’s players when they went 1-0 down to Brighton within the first three minutes of action.

Cascarino believes that the current Spurs squad has been weakened by the departure of Mousa Dembele and believes that he has not been adequately replaced.

The Belgian left the club in January when he completed a £9million move to Chinese club Guangzhou R&F (Standard).

Tottenham’s full-back positions have also been an issue this season with Pochettino having already played Serge Aurier, Kyle Walker-Peters, Moussa Sissoko and Davinson Sanchez at right-back.

Opinion

Mousa Dembele’s importance at Tottenham has become even more clear since his departure, we miss his ability on the ball to drive effortlessly past the opposition.

Instead, we are now having to wideness sideways pass after sideways pass with no end product to our attempts to create anything in the final third of the pitch.
