Video: Marcus Edwards nets solo goal day after Spurs part with 15% of his sell-on clause

A day after Tottenham decided to give up a percentage of the sell-on clause for Marcus Edwards, the winger scored a brilliant solo goal in Sporting Lisbon’s 5-0 thrashing of Braga.

After Sporting reneged on the terms of the agreement on the Porro deal on Monday (David Ornstein), Tottenham had to pay a premium to convince the Portuguese club to part ways with the right-back on transfer deadline day.

According to Sky Sports, Spurs not only paid an initial £5m loan fee for Porro with an obligation to make it permanent for an additional £39m in the summer but the North London club also gave up 15 per cent of the sell-on clause they had for Edwards.

The Lilywhites might already be ruing their decision as the winger served another timely reminder of his talent on Wednesday as he cut in from the right and scored a brilliant solo goal against Braga.

Not only have Spurs paid £44m (including the loan fee) for Porro but they have also seemingly given up a transfer fee on Doherty and possibly paid off a portion of the Irishman’s contract, in addition to also giving up a portion of the sell-on clause for Edwards.

So, in essence, Porro has essentially cost Spurs well above £60m, which would make him the most expensive transfer in the club’s history.
