Former Arsenal and Aston Villa midfielder Paul Merson believes that Dele Alli needs to leave Tottenham Hotspur.
Merson highlighted the importance of the midfielder needing to be playing regular first team football due to the speed of the modern game.
Dele has struggled to hold down a place in Jose Mourinho’s side this season having only started three matches in all competitions (transfermarkt).
He was given a rare start against Royal Antwerp on Thursday night, but a poor performance led to him being brought off at half-time.
The Sky Sports pundit believes the fact that the Portuguese brought off Dele after forty five minutes of action in Belgium is a message in itself and should look to move on to rekindle the type of form which propelled him into the limelight earlier in his career in North London.
Merson claimed that Dele has the potential to become a player of Frank Lampard’s calibre but a lack of confidence is contributing to the tough season he is experiencing.
