Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder and manager Tim Sherwood has accused referee Chris Kavanagh of making the wrong call thanks to a VAR miscommunication during the draw against Watford.

Spurs managed to pull themselves level against the Hornets four minutes from time when Dele Alli capitalised on a defensive mix-up to put the ball in the back of Ben Foster’s net.

Sherwood believes that the referee was told it was not a goal and he rushed into a decision after panicking by awarding the goal.

He appeared as a pundit as part of beIN Sport’s match day coverage alongside Andy Gray and Richard Keys with the trio convinced it was a matter of miscommunication.

Sherwood claimed that since the ball touched the top of Dele’s arm that the goal should have been chalked off and a handball decision awarded instead.
