Toby Alderweireld has featured in more than his share of headlines this season, many out of his control with newspaper after newspaper linking him with a move away from Tottenham Hotspur.

Despite the frustrations among Spurs fans with the club unable to tie him down to a new long-term contract, nobody can question the Belgian’s commitment when he takes to the field.

While the likes of Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez have missed parts of the season through injury, Alderweireld has been an absolute rock at the heart of the Spurs defence.

His passion for winning is contagious and he wanted to make sure that after Harry Wink’s header deep into injury time, there would be no further time played by booting the ball out of the stadium and presumably into the Thames just to make sure.

Levy, if you’re reading. Pay the man what he’s worth. Defenders of this quality certainly do not grow on trees.
