The news we were all expecting today has finally been announced, Kyle Walker has joined Manchester City from Tottenham in a deal worth an initial £45million, which could rise to £50million if the add-on clauses are met.

Walker, who has signed a five-year deal at the Etihad Stadium, therefore becomes one of the most expensive defenders of all time.

In announcing the signing, Walker’s agency, Base Soccer, claimed on Twitter that their client commanded: “a record fee for a defender and record fee for an English player”.

Whether Walker ever proves to be the costliest defender of all time or not, it is certainly a significant outlay from City and takes their summer spending well beyond the B#100million mark after the captures of playmaker Bernardo Silva and goalkeeper Ederson.

“I am thrilled to be signing for City and can’t wait to get started,” Walker said on www.mancity.com.

“Pep Guardiola is one of the most respected managers in the world and I feel he can help me take my game to a new level.”

You have to laugh at his last comment – Pochettino has done wonders for Walker’s game. He could hardly defend before Poch arrived!

Time to step up the mark, Mr Trippier!

  1. I just hope that Levy takes note of our manager’s alleged hints about getting in new signings early to get them ready for the new season.so,no last day bargains please ………if our manager goes you better follow rapidly as you will not be forgiven

  2. Tottenham , PLEASE STOP SELLING. Spurs are in a very good place, maybe CHAMPIONS PLACE. Every time we build something great, rival clubs take interest in our players because they have a poor program. Those clubs hold very little regard for Spurs. They only want our players to disrupt our plans for success. If Walker wants to go let him go. (a team is as strong as it’s bench , he should understand that and forget about his own selfish needs. Players with that mental are not team players. Poch has transformed him a player he never was so why would you want to leave? DISRESPECTFUL !) All we needed was to add one or two versatile players to blend with the current good potential CHAMPIONSHIP squad. All the other clubs are envious of what we HAVE PUT TOGETHER OVER THE LAST 2 – 3 YEARS under the direction of Mr. Pochettino. That alone should say our worth. PLEASE STOP SELLING! PLEASE STOP SELLING! PLEASE STOP SELLING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
