Wayne Rooney claims Harry Kane is ‘being held as a prisoner’ at Tottenham

Wayne Rooney has asserted that Harry Kane is being held as a prisoner at Tottenham against his wishes, and added that the striker would be the ‘ideal’ signing for Manchester United this summer.

Kane’s future very much remains up in the air, with reports over the last 48 hours indicating that the expectation is for Spurs to sell the striker to Bayern Munich for a hefty fee if he does not extend his contract at the North London club this summer (The Athletic).

The Independent explained on Wednesday that as things stand, the England captain’s chances of leaving are ’50-50′ and added that Bayern believe they have everything in place for a deal to go through except a final agreement with Daniel Levy.

However, the publication made it clear that a move to Man Utd does not seem to be on the cards for the 29-year-old as the Tottenham chairman has no intention of listening to offers from Premier League sides for his talisman.

Rooney says Kane is being held prisoner at Spurs

Rooney has now admitted that signing Kane would give United a much better chance of competing with the likes of Manchester City.

The former Red Devils star told The Sun: “Harry Kane would be the ideal player, for me, to go and join Manchester United. It looks like he’s being held as a prisoner at Tottenham! It looks very difficult for him to get out of there.

“If Manchester United have Harry Kane, then that gives their chances of going to win, and compete, a lot easier. But where that happens, remains to be seen.”

Kane is clearly in a very powerful position as he could join any one of a whole host of clubs on a free transfer next summer if Tottenham decide not to cash in on him right now.

That is evidently why the 29-year-old is not agitating for a move this summer. The notion that he is being held hostage is laughable.
