“We can’t wait” – RB Leipzig boss Nagelsmann on facing Spurs in Champions League

RB Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann had admitted that he is relishing the opportunity of playing Tottenham Hotspur.

The two sides were pitted against each other following the Champions League draw round of 16 which took place this morning.

At 32, Nagelsmann is considered to be one of the brightest managerial talents in European football and was said to have been a consideration to have replaced Mauricio Pochettino, who was sacked last month (The Times).

Nagelsmann caught the attention of RB Leipzig after taking Hoffenheim into the Champions League and securing back-to-back top-four Bundesliga finishes.

The manager admits that he is looking forward to watching his side play in Tottenham’s new stadium, with the first leg to be held in North London.

Leipzig are certainly a threat and currently find themselves two points ahead of Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga table.

Spurs managed to avoid the likes of PSG and Barcelona in the draw but cannot underestimate the Germans.

“Tottenham is a very nice and exciting tie!” he told Leipzig’s Twitter account.

“They’re one of Europe’s top teams, playing in a fantastic city with star players who have a lot of experience. It won’t be easy but we’re really looking forward to it, especially playing in that stadium.

“Spurs have a world-class manager in Jose Mourinho. The games will be exciting and we’ll need to put in two top performances. We’re more than capable of doing that. What a tie! We can’t wait!”
