‘Will come down to price’ – Eccleshare sheds light on Spurs’ pursuit of 23-year-old

The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare has become the latest journalist to talk up the chances of Tottenham making a move for Jean-Clair Todibo, with the journalist stating that any deal would come down to how much Nice are demanding for the centre-back.

Spurs fans sat up and took notice on Wednesday when Fabrizio Romano revealed on his YouTube channel that Tottenham had begun talks with Nice along with Todibo‘s representatives over a potential January transfer.

Romano explained that the Lilywhites were keen to complete a deal for the Frenchman swiftly and want to ensure that the negotiations do not drag on until the latter stages of next month’s transfer window.

However, Spurs do not have a free run at the Frenchman, with various outlets reporting over the last 48 hours that the 23-year-old is also one of Manchester United’s top defensive targets (Metro).

Will Todibo be a Spurs player next month?

Eccleshare has now revealed that Spurs did take a close look at Todibo last summer and they will reignite their interest in the player in January.

However, he explained that the France international is on the radars of many top clubs and any deal will ultimately depend on Nice’s asking price and how determined the Ligue 1 club are to instead decide to wait until the summer to sell one of their key players.

The journalist also added that Spurs are continuing to monitor Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo, Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly and Genoa’s Radu Dragusin.

Spurs Web Opinion

There has not been any concrete update regarding the fee Nice would want for Todibo. I do not think Tottenham will be particularly keen to pay anything over £45m for the Frenchman.
