“You remind me of Luka Modric” – former Spurs star describes rumoured transfer target

Jermain Defoe has likened Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Lewis Cook to his former team-mate Luka Modric.

The Sun claim that Spurs are preparing a £30million offer for the Bournemouth man, of whom Defoe plays with and trains alongside each day.

The former Spurs striker holds Cook in high regard and believes that the future is bright for the 21-year-old midfielder.

Defoe is well qualified to make the comparison between the players, but it remains to be seen if an offer from Spurs will materialise, or whether they will spend on Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish.

“Oh my god, he’s got unbelievable potential,” Defoe told talkSPORT.

“I call him ‘Little Maestro’. I said to him ‘you remind me of Luka Modric’.

“But he was like ‘Nah, Jermain, you can’t say that’!

“He never panics and he’s one of those players who stays on the ball.

“If he gets the ball in certain areas and I think he’s going to just pass it, he gets out of the area and I’m like ‘wow’.

The transfer window closes at 5pm next Thursday and at present, we are yet to strengthen our squad. Will it go down to the wire, or will we be left disappointed by Daniel Levy’s transfer dealings?
