Gallery: The five players who could fill Christian Eriksen’s boots at Tottenham

Christian Eriksen’s future at Tottenham remains unclear following statements to Danish media stating that he would like to “try something new.” (Ekstra Bladet).

However, with Real Madrid reportedly turning their interest to Manchester United’s Paul Pogba (Goal), the Danish maestro finds himself in limbo, unsure of what his next move in his career will be.

Eriksen’s future has been a vast talking point throughout the entire season, and it seems as if Spurs are preparing for the Dane’s departure, reportedly negotiating with a number of cubs for potential replacements.

Spurs have been linked with a variety of players, including Giovani Lo Celso, Tanguy Ndombele, Donny van de Beek, Bruno Fernandes, and Nicolo Zaniolo (Standard).

We will list the players that we think are viable options to replace Eriksen in order from 1-5, with 1 being the player Spurs should prioritise, and 5 being the least suited candidate to replace Christian Eriksen should he leave the club this summer.

3. James Maddison

Homegrown talent James Maddison has sparked the interest of many following his inaugural season in the Premier League with Leicester City.

Following a 25m transfer from Norwich City in July 2018, Maddison scored seven goals and seven assists during the 2018/19 campaign. He participated in 36 matches, 92% of the time in the starting eleven playing 83% of minutes.

Age is on his side. At 22, Maddison is in the ideal player age gap that Mauricio Pochettino admires.

If Maddison’s recent comments about trophies are anything to go by, then Pochettino may have more to admire.

Maddison claimed that he is “desperate to win” – much like Tottenham, who have endured a 11-year trophy drought.

Maddison’s price tag sits at around 60m – a similar fee to the likes of Lo Celso. However, Spurs have stronger opposition to Maddison. Manchester United have shown strong interest in the England international and will have to compete vigorously if they are serious about signing him.

Transfer probability: Unlikely
