Gallery: The five players who could fill Christian Eriksen’s boots at Tottenham

Christian Eriksen’s future at Tottenham remains unclear following statements to Danish media stating that he would like to “try something new.” (Ekstra Bladet).

However, with Real Madrid reportedly turning their interest to Manchester United’s Paul Pogba (Goal), the Danish maestro finds himself in limbo, unsure of what his next move in his career will be.

Eriksen’s future has been a vast talking point throughout the entire season, and it seems as if Spurs are preparing for the Dane’s departure, reportedly negotiating with a number of cubs for potential replacements.

Spurs have been linked with a variety of players, including Giovani Lo Celso, Tanguy Ndombele, Donny van de Beek, Bruno Fernandes, and Nicolo Zaniolo (Standard).

We will list the players that we think are viable options to replace Eriksen in order from 1-5, with 1 being the player Spurs should prioritise, and 5 being the least suited candidate to replace Christian Eriksen should he leave the club this summer.

5. Nicolo Zaniolo

Last but not least, Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo.

Zaniolo is the youngest player on this list, and potentially costs him a spot higher up the list. Whilst just 19 however, he has already featured for the Italian National Team and has gained international praise from many in the football world.

Zaniolo plays as an attacking midfielder, and has scored six goals for the season in all competitions, including four in Serie A and two in the Champions League.

Whilst impressive, Zaniolo is yet to have his breakout season. During the 2018/19 campaign with AS Roma, he featured just 53% of the time in the starting eleven and only played 52% of the total season minutes, ticking over at 2,256.

Nicolo Zanilo was purchased by Roma in the summer of 2018 for just 4.5 million Euros. If sold this summer, it is believed that Roma will accept an offer in the region of 50m. This would be a cheaper option for Spurs if other deals fail and a huge cash-in for Roma.

However, interest has emerged from the likes of Real Madrid, Juventus, and Bayern Munich for the Italian rising talent, meaning that Spurs would have a monumental task of acquiring him.

Transfer probability: Unlikely
