Middlesbrough boss Gordon Strachan has once again stated that he’d like to keep Kyle Naughton at the club.

The right-back has been on loan at the Riverside Stadium from Spurs since January, making 14 appearances.

“I think there’s more to come from him,” Strachan told Boro’s official site. “I’d like to get him back for at least a year. It’s the first time I’ve really used the loan system. When you’ve got them on loan you learn you can’t put full pressure on players to make them better.”

He added: “If you look at their bench recently, Spurs have got to have the best squad in the league.”

“If we could sign him for a decent fee we would do that as well. He’d like to come back if everything is right for him.”

    Naughton should not be sold. He is one for the future and if he can go on loan to Boro for another season then so be it. Selling him should be taken out of the equation.

    You do not sell good young players send him on loan but take him on any preseason games to make him feel wanted by the team

    Corluka/Charlie and Naughton are 1 and 2 in the right back position. Hutton can go. Walker? who knows. Naughton being at Boro for another year would be a good thing for both clubs, but it would be madness to sell him until he's been given a much better opportunity than we could afford to let him have this season. A better question would be who, if anyone should replace Corluka.

    Gareth Bale is the most telling example that young players need to be given time to develop…Harry was definitely thinking of selling him but luckily for Spurs (?) Assou-Ekotto picked up a bad injury and Bale got an extended run..he got some confidence and because of him we’re in the Champions League
