Premier League chairman have rejected the idea of a play-off to decide the fourth Champions League place.

Some clubs were keen on the idea in principle, but the plan has stalled after clubs voted against looking into the idea for the time being.

Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal all opposed the idea.

We don’t want it. You know what would happen? We would finish, have to do a playoff and LOSE. Playoffs good for promotion only. Besides, there already is a playoff – with teams from other nations for a place in the group stages. I would rather have the Europa league winner qualify for chnamps league. That would give the lower teams (and FA cup winners) a chance and more interest in the trophy.

I gotta say this is the right outcome. If you finish below fourth place your are not good enough for CL and hence do not deserve the place. It would’ve served only as a money spinner for the TV networks.

Several teams have won the play-offs in the Championship and
been bloody useless in the Premiership the season after. This
was another stupid idea that de-values effort, skill and a bit
of luck- the factors that take a whole season to develop and
    accumulate.
