Redknapp bracing himself for a ‘disaster’ January for Tottenham

Harry Redknapp admits January could be a “disaster” month for Tottenham.

Spurs will lose Sebastien Bassong and Benoit Assou-Ekotto to the African Nations Cup next month which will only hurt Redknapp’s defensive problems with Ledley King and Jonathan Woodgate sidelined through injury.

“It’s a disaster really, a disaster for us losing a couple of players,” Redknapp said.

“When you sign them I guess you know you’re going to lose them every couple of years playing in those games. It’s a chance you take.

“We’ll be OK at left-back. Gareth Bale’s training great and looking OK, doing well. But we’ve got a problem obviously at centre-half if one of the other two boys don’t get fit – if Ledley or Woody don’t get fit. That is a problem.”

“I’ve got four centre-halves and if one of the other two comes back we’ll be OK,” Redknapp said.

“(Vedran) Corluka can play there, Tom (Huddlestone) can play there as well.”

    Look now Harry, don’t be using the loss of 2 players to coverup our failings even before they have occured. It seems that Arry is getting his excuses in early for January, which as a spurs fan is disheartening, after all Bale will do the job at left back, and like he says, Corluka and Huddlestone will plug the gap in centre defence, if they are needed as id expect at least woody to make a recovery by then. We dont wanna hear excuses Arry you had time to sort this out, 2 transfer windows, so stop ya moaning and UP the Spurs, dont cast a shadow on them , COYS

    In that case Harry, dont buy African players. I dont understand why clubs do and then moan when they are away for a month in January. It is amazing 2 weeks ago he was trumpeting about Champions League and now we have the same amount of points as Birmingham City – that says it all really, and we now intend to have a disaster in January. Nothing like having faith in the rest of your squad, this is the same squad deemed more than capable of breaking the top 4 by him. Two high profile and yet very expensive players dont even want to play for him!! Two are so badly injured nobody has any clue when they expect to be able to put one foot infront of the other let alone play. Yet again our club seems to lurch towards another headache and mid season collapse after such a promising start. Harry stop moaning, get on with what you are paid to do, sell some players in January and then get on with the job of making us a decent club again.

    TOTALLY AGREE WITH THE RESPECTIVE COMMENTS , WERE POSSIABLE I WOULD NOT SIGN ANY PLAYERS WHO ARE GOING TO HURT THE CLUB BY BEING GONE FOR THIS LENGTH OF TIME PURE MADNESS , AS HARRY SAYS WE HAVE PLAYERS TO STAND IN BUT I HAVE SEEN HUDDLESTONE AND CORLUKA IN THE CENTRE HALF POSITIONS AND THEY ARE JUST NOT CUT OUT FOR THESE POSITIONS , STOP MOANING HARRY AND SIGN THE CORRECT PLAYERS IN THE FUTURE AND PLAY THEM IN THE POSITIONS THEY STAR IN !!

    Steve – When we bought Ekotto and Basong neither were actually African. Both were French, however now realising that they have no chance of playing for France have decided they are now Cameroonian.

    I agree with Macca – sounds like ‘arry is getting his excuses in early. A&E and Bassong aren’t the biggest losses in the world, its the equivalent of them having a minor injury. Start preaching the doom and gloom if we lose JD, Azza and Krank.

    I wish Harry Houdini would stop moaning about the African Nations Cup for a moment and go back to when he gave youngsters a chance to shine. We have a pelthura of options at the back, and need to start believing in some of the best prospects in the game.

    Lets look at how bad things are with Bassong and Assou Ekotto off to play for their countries. We have Bale who can play at left back, branded as the ‘spurs Jinx’ but given a run he could become a world class fullback. We have Michael Dawson who for me has obvioulsy learnt from King and should now be our first choice reliable CB. We have King and Woodgate both currently injured, but dont right off one of them being fit during this period. We have corluka who can play with Dawson in the middle, and with Hutton waiting for a chance to shine at RB this would fit smoothly. In addition we have Kyle Naughton who for me look like the best of the lot given a run he could become the best RB in the Premiership.

    Any top manager knows what needs to be done, and I have every confidence that Harry Houdini will weave his magic in the January transfer window.

    Sell Pavlyuchenko for £12m, Bentley for £10m, Jenas for £10m, Keane for £10m, Bale £8m & Hutton for £5m = £55m (All these players are part bit squad players and as such will be of little loss. Bale is clearly out of favour with Redknapp and therefore I have added him as a transfer)

    Buy Pletikosa GK £5m, Figueroa LB £6m, Huntelaar £8m, Scott Parker £5m, Sandro £8m and bank the rest for a big move for Champions League football next year. Once spurs have qualified this early move will provide the spare £25m to go with the £25m that Spurs will earn giving them a chance to buy two or three world class players like David Villa & Daniel Alves.

    One last thought is Giovani Dos Santos, Dorien Dervitte, John Bostock, Kyle Naughton, Kyle Walker, Adel Taarabt, Jake Livermore, Danny Rose, O’Hara & Alnwick. All these players have shown real talent, but I predict Bostock, Livermore, Taarabt and Naughton are four real superstrs in the making, and Harry is nurturing them for next season when we will need young lights in Europe.

    Come on you spurs.

    This could help us and England let me explain Big to at 6ft3 could get in the England squad if has I think he would plays great at the back for Spurs this would give us more height at the back Bassong is 6ft1 and look what we could play in midfield the team would be GOMES CORLUKA HUDDLESTONE DAWSON BALE OR NAUGHTON — LENNON PALACIOS KRANJCAR MODERIC DEFOE CROUCH.Hudds has never played in a losing defense and he has rarley played with one of the three defenders woodgate is the only one at Everton two seasons ago 0-0 when they had johnson and yakubu.coys

    Have you lads been playing too much Fantasy Football or are you just the usual forum fodder who only go near the stadium 5 times a year at best! Harry was just bemoaning the obvious bad luck he’s had with the African Nations coming up just as he’s got an injury problem in defence with his players leaving happening to be African – fair enough really! King and especially Woody are looking doubts even for Jan. Bale can do a job!? Really, not in defence he can’t, only on the left of midfield or taking free-kicks! With Benny away, what with him putting in man of the match performances at the moment, he will be a huge miss. And the obvious problem with your fantasy line-ups is if Charlie and Thudd are moved into central defence you leave holes where they’re moved from as they are already first-teamers! Hutton can’t be sold and provide cover at the same time(and has been poor other than one good performance vs Everton in the CC). Reality check lads!(AND HOW ABOUT A BIT OF SUPPORT FOR HARRY! – ESPECIALLY IF YOU’RE GONNA WRITE COYS AFTER YOUR MESSAGES!)
