Sky Sports News are reporting that Tottenham Hotspur failed in an approach for Matthew Upson.
The West Ham defender has been linked with a move away from Upton Park during the transfer window, but Harry Redknapp has apparently failed to lure the England international to White Hart Lane and has since set his sights on a loan deal for Sunderland’s Anton Ferdinand with Alan Hutton going the other way as part of the agreement.

Secondly, Dawson is injured and therefore cannot play. We needed defenders who can play now, not in a few months when they are over injury, therefore we signed defenders. To not sign defenders as it may compromise Dawson’s position in the squad when he is fit again is a stupid thing to say! If Dawson and Woodgate are not fit, we are short on defenders who can play at premiership level. Therefore we must sign players to fill those voids.
When Dawson and Woodgate are fit again, if they are good enough, they will displace the likes of Bassong, King etc etc.
It is called a SQUAD!
