Portsmouth have described rumours linking Asmir Begovic with a move to Tottenham Hotspur as “rubbish”.

The Bosnian keeper has impressed in goal for Pompey in the absence of the injured David James.

Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie told The News: “It’s absolute rubbish that Asmir will be leaving us. We haven’t even heard anything from Spurs.

“This lad is the future of this football club and he can go on and on.

“We’ve all been impressed with him. He’s done fantastic since he’s come into the side and I hope it continues.

“I think you have got to give full credit to Dave Coles, who has nurtured him for a long time.

“And we are definitely not looking to sell Asmir.”
