Van Bommel claims Spurs interest

Mark Van Bommel has spoken of his interest in playing for Tottenham at some point, after Harry Redknapp claimed he made a mistake by not pushing for a deal for the Dutchman.

Spurs were keen on Van Bommel in the January transfer window as he looked set to leave Bayern Munich.

However, Redknapp has since conceded he took too long in sorting out a viable deal for the Dutch destroyer, who linked up with AC Milan on a free transfer instead.

Van Bommel is flattered by Redknapp’s retrospective comments in regards to him and has not ruled out a future move to his ‘favourite English club.’

“We had some contact with Spurs. Unfortunately it didn’t work out in the end.

“It’s one of my favourite clubs in England, that’s all I really want to say.

“I really love the stadium. I know the training ground because I’ve been there with the Dutch national team.

“Rafael (Van Der Vaart) has told me a lot of good stories. I’d love to play for Spurs. I’ve told Rafael that as well.

“I don’t know how things will go. I’m pleased with what Harry Redknapp’s said about me. That’s always positive.

“It’s not good to look back. You’ve got to look to the future. I’m happy at Milan, but you never know what will happen.”
