Villa braced for Young battle

Martin O’Neill admits that he is braced for approaches for Ashley Young.

The Aston Villa winger has been linked with moves to Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool over the course of the weekend.

“In the next couple of weeks I’m sure there will be great interest in Ashley, who has been fantastic for us,” O’Neill said in the Daily Mirror.

“I felt myself that his form last season was every bit as good as in the previous year.

“Not everybody agreed with that but I thought Ashley was different class.

“Our job is, first and foremost, to keep the players. If that is the case then that is great.

“If that is not the case then obviously we have to get that valuation that we put on players and get as close to it as possible.”

    Surely being linked to players like Ashley young and Joe cole can only mean Harry is looking at playing a new system next season. With the likes of bale, niko, Lennon and midric all playing great last season he will find it hard to fit them into a 4-4-2.

    I think we should take City's SELLING SPREE for advantage and put bids in for :

    (CERTAIN)
    Richards – Can play Right Back and Centre Back
    Ireland – Can play anywhere across the middle
    Bellamy – Can play up front and on the left wing

    (POSSIBLE)
    Wayne Bridge? – Another option for left back
    Adebayor? – Proven Premier League goal scorer
    De Jong? – Cover for when Palacios is suspended

      adebayor would never want to come to spurs, nor would any spurs fan accept him in a spurs jersey. i do agree that it would be wise to take advantage of all the disgruntled talent at man city now that mancini is going on his spending spree

        I would love him in a Spurs shirt – great player on his daY, HE IS SOMETHING WE HAVEN'T REALLY GOT… AND MORE IMPORTANT THAN ANYTHING, HOW MUCH DO YOU WISH THAT THE DAY HE SCORED AGAINST ARSENAL, RAN THE LENGTH OF THE PITCH TO CELEBRATE ON HIS KNEES – HE DID THAT IN A SPURS SHIRT. (sorry about caps, only just noticed). He hates them as much/more than we do, I would love him to score for us against the scum!!!

    Personally im growing fustrated at the lack of attempts to sign a new striker, all this talk of Fabiano etc, id be happy with Huntelaar, but we need to get it sorted soon and send Keane packing

      I’m with you mate. I know it’s hard times and apart from shitty no1 is really signing players but we need to strengthen. Positions needed are centre half, striker and possibly midfield. Harry usually talks up his targets (Joe cole) but he’s keeping tight lipped. Keane and jenas are two players we could cash in on (£10-£15mill). Add that to our 4th place winnings and we could easily spend big on one player and add a couple on loan.
