Newcastle United have rejected a bid from Tottenham Hotspur for Sebastien Bassong.
Harry Redknapp is keen to strengthen his defence following injuries to Michael Dawson, Ledley King and Jonathan Woodgate – but the Championship club have turned down a £10million approach from the White Hart Lane outfit.
Arsenal are also said to be interested in the former French Under 21 international, but are put off by the Magpies £15million valuation.
It remains to be seen if Harry Redknapp will improve his offer.
