The four crucial games Eric Dier looks set to miss in Spurs’ Premier League run-in

Eric Dier has received a four-game ban for ‘confronting a fan’ in the FA Cup defeat to Norwich City in March (BBC). On top of his four-game suspension, Dier was fined £40,000 for his actions.

Despite a couple of errors, Dier has impressed since the restart to the Premier League as he returns to his original role as a centre-back under Jose Mourinho.

So, which games will Dier now miss as a result of his four-match FA ban?

Dier will miss Thursday’s trip to struggling Bournemouth. Spurs face a visit to the south coast with the Cherries fighting for every point they can get as they look to climb out of the bottom three.

Next up, Dier will also miss the North London Derby as Arsenal make the short journey to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the first time. This is, perhaps, the most crushing fixture for Dier to miss given his leadership at the back of late.

On Wednesday, July 15, Spurs travel north to in-form Newcastle United who are now aiming for a top-half finish. With Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron causing defences a headache of late, Dier will be a huge miss.

Finally, Dier will miss the home game against Brendan Rodgers’, Leicester City. The Foxes are holding on for a top-four finish and, despite a drop in form, prove fierce opposition.

Dier may return to Premier League football on the last day of the season as Spurs make the short trip to Crystal Palace.

Spurs Web Opinion:

I am gutted that Dier has received such a hefty ban. He has made errors against Manchester United and Sheffield United, however, I do believe he has been fairly solid on the whole. I really do think we will miss him at the back – especially in the derby.
