Tottenham Hotspur club name
Tottenham Hotspur may be the official name for the club, but football fans use a number of different ways to reference the North London side, most commonly, the nickname Spurs.
Founded as: Hotspur Football Club
Name changed to: Tottenham Hotspur Football Club (1884)
Nickname: Tottenham, Spurs, The Lilywhites
Tottenham Hotspur founding year
The club was founded in 1882 by a group of schoolboys from the Hotspur Cricket Club. Upon deciding they wanted to form a football team, they named it, fittingly, Hotspur Football Club.
Led by grammar school teacher named Bobby Buckle, the club largely took part in friendlies and local leagues, before becoming Tottenham Hotspur two years later.

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
In their formative years, Tottenham played at a variety of local grounds before settling at White Hart Lane in 1899. They stayed at the iconic stadium for more than 100 years, before moving into their flashy new home, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, in 2019.
The new ground was built right next to the iconic White Hart Lane site, allowing the club to retain its location while upgrading to one of the best stadiums in world football.
First stadium: White Hart Lane
Current stadium: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium capacity: 62,850

Tottenham have been using the Hotspur Way training ground since 2012, which is a state-of-the-art facility. This is located in Enfield, North London.
They have previously trained at facilities in Chigwell and Bulls Cross.

A Premier League ever-present
Tottenham Hotspur were part of the first ever Premier League season in 1991/92 and has stayed in the top flight ever since, being one of only six clubs to do so.
They have never won the Premier League title, but have finished as high as second before, in the 2016/17 season.
Tottenham are still one of the most successful English clubs of all time. Spurs were the first British team to win a major European competition, they won the first-ever UEFA Cup, and the first team to do the domestic double, winning the league and FA Cup in 1961 to add to their list of honours.
The club has won the Football League in 1950/51 and 1960/61. They have also won the FA Cup eight times, the League Cup four times, the UEFA Cup/Europa League three times, the Division Two title twice, and the Charity Shield on seven occasions.

Tottenham Hotspur head coach
Another new dawn is upon the club after Tottenham Hotspur appointed Thomas Frank as head coach in June 2025.
Frank was brought in to replace Ange Postecoglou, who, despite a poor Premier League campaign in 2024/25, won the Europa League trophy with victory over Manchester United in Bilbao but it was not enough to keep him in the job.
Frank has plenty of Premier League experience given his time at Brentford, where he made the Bees an established top flight side and will now look to build upon last season’s trophy success.
Thomas Frank’s tenure: June 2025 – present (contract runs until 2028)
