Postecoglou admits he wishes the rest of his Spurs players were like Cristian Romero

Ange Postecoglou has admitted that he wants to bottle up whatever Cristian Romero has in him and instil it into some of his other Tottenham Hotspur players.

Tottenham fell to a 3-2 defeat in the North London Derby this afternoon, courtesy of a lacklustre first-half performance in which Arsenal were allowed to race into a three-goal lead without getting out of third gear.

The Lilywhites scored an own goal from a set-piece, were hit on the break by Bukayo Saka, and then conceded from yet another corner to practically hand the victory to their bitter rivals.

Spurs need more players like Cristian Romero

However, Cristian Romero inspired at least a sniff of a second-half comeback when he pounced on a David Raya mistake to pull a goal back, which was later added to by a Heung-min Son penalty.

In fact, Romero played the majority of the last 20 minutes as a centre-forward as Tottenham knocked on the door of a famous derby comeback, all the while flying into challenges and showing heart galore.

Unfortunately, it appears Postecoglou does not think all of his Spurs squad showed the same winning mentality. He told the press after the game (Football London): “Yeah, he was outstanding. He’s a World Cup winner and I’ve just got to get some of what’s in him into some of the others.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

Ange is bang on here. Romero has that winning mentality no matter who Tottenham are playing. Too many of his teammates coast through games and wait for others to produce the moments of magic needed to win football matches.
