Report: Spurs have now taken big steps towards signing German starlet

According to a report in BILD, Tottenham Hotspur have now stepped up their pursuit of highly-rated Hertha Berlin talent Boris Lum.

Lum has been making waves for the club’s youth teams recently and he is now thought to be on the radars of several big sides around the continent.

BILD say that the 16-year-old is currently captaining Germany’s Under-17s at the Algarve Cup in Portugal, and alongside Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen, many top clubs are keeping track of him.

The report claims that Ajax, Barcelona and RB Salzburg have also shown an interest in Lum for quite a while but ‘things are now getting very hot’ with Tottenham.

Tottenham are interested in signing Boris Lum

It is revealed that the defensive midfielder recently made the trip to London to get a tour of the Hotspur Way facilities and even attended the clash against Bournemouth at the end of December.

It is then that the Premier League side allegedly ‘persuaded’ Lum about a move to North London. Bild say that Hertha do not wish to lose the teenager and are protected by a €5m (£4.2m) release clause in his contract.

However, the publication points out that the German side are in need of funds and would thus have to ‘seriously think’ about it even if they receive a lower offer for the midfielder.

Johan Lange made it clear last week that Tottenham want to be one of the most attractive destinations for the best young players in Europe. Following their recent acquisitions of Ashley Phillips, Luka Vuskovic and Lucas Bergvall, it seems like the Lilywhites are persisting with the strategy of signing up-and-coming talents.
