Richarlison and Emerson give great behind-the-scenes insight on Heung-min Son as captain

Richarlison and Emerson are both impressed by the effort Heung-min Son makes behind-the-scenes as Tottenham’s new club captain (Desimpedidos).

Ange Postecoglou completely shook up the Spurs leadership team when he arrived in the summer, with Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris both also leaving the club in the past 12 months.

Heung-min Son was named captain, alongside James Maddison and Cristian Romero as vice-captains, and the South Korean seems to be thriving under the additional leadership pressure.

Heung-min Son is impressing as Spurs captain

Emerson revealed that, as well as speaking German and English, Sonny also tried to speak Portuguese and Spanish behind closed doors, with Spurs having a strong South American contingent at the moment.

Richarlison also added that, although Sonny doesn’t personally guide him as much as Harry Kane used to, the number 7 ‘talks quite a bit’ and has taken on lots of responsibility at Hotspur Way.

Emerson said: “Man tries to speak Portuguese, tries to speak Spanish. I say that he is very similar to us Brazilians, like his self-esteem, his way of living life. He’s a buddy. I really like him. Now he’s our captain. So now that he’s even more, he took on that responsibility even more.”

Richarlison added: “He guides yes, not as much as Harry Kane but he talks quite a bit. Of course, he has a big responsibility too because he’s been with Tottenham for many years. So he’s also the guy who has to take on responsibility with us.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

Heung-min Son seems to be one of the most popular players on and off the pitch, not just at Tottenham but in the Premier League as a whole. The way he conducts himself is perfect for a captain and he has really risen to the challenge of the armband a lot more than I expected him to.
