Tottenham receive transfer snub as £34m target rejects offer to move continent instead

Tottenham Hotspur have received yet another blow in their search for midfield reinforcement as a Premier League player with 5 goal contributions favours a move to Brazil instead.

Tottenham Hotspur are in desperate need of attacking reinforcement and additional midfield options amid an ongoing injury crisis.

Rodrigo Bentancur’s latest long-term setback has only added to Spurs’ struggles and has pushed the club towards the transfer market in search of solutions.

Reports now claim that, six months after securing the services of Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United, Tottenham are once again looking to do business with their London rivals.

Tottenham make move for Lucas Paqueta amid midfield concerns

According to reports from AS, it is understood that Spurs have submitted an offer for West Ham United midfielder Lucas Paqueta in recent weeks.

Tottenham have been linked with Lucas Paqueta for some time and are keen to secure his services during the winter transfer window.

West Ham are currently embroiled in a relegation battle, sitting 18th in the Premier League table, and Paqueta has remained one of their standout performers in what has been a bleak season, registering four goals and one assist in 18 league appearances, scoring three more goals than Xavi Simons.

However, Spurs’ offer is understood to have been rejected by the 28-year-old Brazilian’s camp.

Spurs dealt blow as Lucas Paqueta eyes Brazil return

Indeed, the signing of Paqueta would help ease some of the gaps further up the pitch for Tottenham and could also offer cover in a deeper midfield role, given his versatility.

But, Spurs are not the only club in the race for the 28-year-old, with Brazilian side Flamengo also showing interest, and are set to make Paqueta the most expensive signing in Brasileirao history, with a deal worth £34 million including fixed and variable fees.

Fabrizio Romano now reports that Lucas Paqueta has reached an agreement with Flamengo on personal terms, with all details finalised on the player side, and it is understood that the midfielder wants to return to Brazil, with talks ongoing with West Ham United as the player pushes to make the move happen.
