‘A great fit’ – Pundit backs Spurs to raid Man Utd for Kane replacement

Dean Windass has backed Tottenham to target Manchester United forward Anthony Martial this summer as a potential replacement for Harry Kane.

Kane’s future continues to be the subject of much speculation, with Manchester City said to be keen on securing the England captain’s services.

However, it remains to be seen whether the Premier League champions will able to prise the striker away from N17, with reports indicating that Nuno Espirito Santo has already been given assurances that the 27-year-old will stay at the club.

Kane himself admitted in an interview to talkSPORT on Monday that he was looking forward to meeting with the new Spurs head coach after the European Championships.

However, some sources have suggested that Spurs are on the lookout for a striker this summer to replace Kane, with Dusan Vlahovic being mooted as a target.

Windass believes that Martial, who was previously linked with a move to Spurs back in 2015, could thrive in North London if the Lilywhites snap him up this summer.

When asked if he expects Tottenham to make a move for the French international, the former Hull City forward told Football Fancast: “I could see that happening.

“They probably know [Harry] Kane’s gone now anyway. That’s probably a done deal with whoever it’s with.

“Martial will be a great fit, bit less pressure on Martial I think. Listen, great player, by the way. I just think his days are numbered at Man United.

“I think he’d be a great fit for Tottenham – bit less pressure on the kid. He’ll probably want to go and enjoy his football.”

With United extending Cavani’s contract and snapping up Sancho, Martial is unlikely to get a lot of game time at Old Trafford next season. So, the Red Devils might be willing to cash in on him this summer.

The 25-year-old undoubtedly has bags of ability and one could argue that he would be a good fit for Nuno’s system. However, I have my doubts over whether the Frenchman will ever reach his true potential.
