Opinion: The top five playmakers Spurs should consider signing this summer

The 2020/21 season is edging closer every day, and this summer window is a huge chance for Spurs to bolster their squad to give themselves hope at winning silverware under Jose Mourinho.

With the departure of attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen, Spurs have lacked a creative edge. Argentine, Giovani Lo Celso has been impressive since signing for the club but a playmaker with a magic touch is without a doubt a position Daniel Levy should be looking at.

Here is a list of five playmakers that Spurs should look to sign ahead of a highly anticipated season:

Paulo Dybala

First on the list is none other than Juventus’ Paulo Dybala. The Argentina international was heavily linked with a dramatic move to North London last summer but it agonisingly did not happen (Metro).

The 26-year-old has racked up impressive numbers already in his career and would add another world class player to Spurs’ squad, taking the club to the next level.

Dybala has played 222 games in Italy’s top flight scoring 84 goals and getting 42 assists in the process. (Transfermarkt)

Phillipe Coutinho

Next up is Brazilian international Phillipe Coutinho, who is currently plying his trade with Bayern Munich on loan from Barcelona.

With the Spanish giants reportedly listening to offers for the attacking midfielder, Spurs should be trying to snap up his signature. (Mirror)

Coutinho is no stranger to the Premier League after playing 152 times in England’s top division with Liverpool. (Transfermarkt)

The 28-year-old should be on Spurs’ radar as he is sure to hit the ground running after already proving himself in the league in the past.

Marcel Sabitzer

Austrian international Marcel Sabitzer is also a player that has been reported to be on the move this summer. (Football Fancast)

There is no doubt that the 26-year-old is a key component in RB Leipzig’s midfield combining both goals and assists in his performances.

Sabitzer helped his side to a Champions League semi-final and is no stranger to Spurs after scoring two goals when the clubs met in the round of 16 last campaign.

He made 32 appearances in the Bundesliga throughout the 19/20 season and was directly involved in 17 goals. (Transfermarkt)

Eberechi Eze

The 22-year-old currently playing for Championship side Queens Park Rangers attracted a lot of attention from Premier League clubs following his outstanding displays last season.

With some of the club’s rivals ready to battle for his signature, Levy should do his best to ensure he makes the move to N17 this summer.

Eze was QPR’s star player last campaign after scoring 14 goals and setting up another eight throughout his 46 league outings. (Tranfermarkt)

He is certainly a player with bags of talent with the potential to be a great player in years to come, so Spurs need to act quickly if they want to add him to the squad.

Emiliano Buendia

Despite Norwich’s poor season, Emiliano Buendia definitely put on a good display for himself in the middle of the park.

Following the Canaries’ relegation to the Championship, the club have been reported to be open to the prospect of letting the Argentine go. (Sports Mole)

Having already spent a season in the Premier League means that Mourinho will have not doubts over whether he is ready for the intense matches week in, week out.

With Norwich looking to sell, Buendia will fall into Levy’s budget so making an agreement should not be an issue.
