Tottenham player ratings from 3-0 win over West Ham as 9/10 star steals the show

The full-time whistle has gone at the London Stadium in the derby between West Ham and Tottenham, and the player ratings are in.

Tottenham Hotspur player ratings vs West Ham

Guglielmo Vicario: Had very little to do beyond reacting to a strange Micky Van de Ven backpass. 7.

Pedro Porro: A little more reserved this evening after his nightmare against Semenyo last time out. Still delivered some dangerous crosses, but held his position with more discipline. 7.5.

Cristian Romero: Should have opened the scoring, had the referee or VAR done their job properly. Showcased some really nice, aggressive, front-footed defending against the likes of Bowen. A well-earned clean sheet from the Tottenham captain. What a pinpoint long ball to assist Bergvall’s goal, too! 8.

Micky Van de Ven: Apart from that nervy header that almost resulted in an own goal, Van de Ven was superb. His pace has always been an asset, but he is learning to read the game and time his challenges even better so far this season. He is also weirdly calm in front of goal. Swept his shot home very nicely. 8.5.

Djed Spence: Going from strength to strength after his England debut. With Xavi preferring to cut infield, Spence was a menace on the overlap all game long. The only downside is that he often ended up crossing with his weak foot, which lacked the zip or accuracy needed to carve West Ham open. 8.

Joao Palhinha: With Bergvall and Sarr pressing high up the pitch, Palhinha was given a big job to do in the pivot role. At times in the opening 30 minutes, he was overrun by the West Ham break, but he held his own and kept Spurs ticking over nicely. Ran the show after the red card. 8.

Lucas Bergvall: Still has a lot to learn about positioning in the central midfield role, but he grew into the game a lot more in the second half and ended up deciding the match with an important goal and assist. Really exciting all-around performance in the end. His ceiling is so, so high. 9.

Pape Matar Sarr: You get the sense that Frank simply does not want to drop Pape Sarr and lose the relentless high press he brings to proceedings. After two goals for Senegal on international duty, Sarr returned to Spurs duty with a wonderful header to open the scoring. 8.5.

Mohammed Kudus: Booed with every single touch, but Kudus seemed to thrive in the cauldron of hate. Looks a real bright spark for Tottenham on the right. His kind of service works better with a target man in the middle, rather than Mathys Tel. Had a good chance to score against his old team in the dying minutes. 8.

Mathys Tel: Struggled to time his runs between the lines. Ironically, while Xavi seemed wasted out left, Tel is arguably better out there. Whatever the case, getting a start after his brace for France U21 will do Tel’s confidence the world of good. 7.

Xavi Simons: Some bright moments on his debut, including an assist from a corner, but Xavi definitely looks a little rusty. It will take him a few weeks to get up to the pace of the Premier League. He was so desperate to cut inside every time he got the ball that it felt pointless to play him wide left. Expect a number 10 start next time out. 7.5.

Substitutes:

Richarlison: Came off the bench after his long trip on international duty. Looked a lot more comfortable in the number nine role than Tel. However, Tel looked sharp in his short spell at left wing, too. 6.

Destiny Udogie: Played out the last 20 minutes in place of Spence and looked nice and sharp. 6.

Kevin Danso: N/A

Brennan Johnson: N/A

Wilson Odobert: N/A
