‘100 per cent certain’ – Journalist gives update on Coutinho future amidst Spurs links

Tottenham may still be in with a chance of landing Philippe Coutinho this summer after Guillem Balague confirmed that the midfielder’s representatives are in talks with Premier League clubs.

Coutinho is expected to return to Barcelona at the end of the season as Bayern Munich will reportedly not take up the option to buy the Brazilian following the conclusion of his loan spell at the Allianz Arena (Mirror).

Tottenham and Chelsea are reportedly battling it out for the former Liverpool star’s signature (Italian journalist Nicolo Schira) with the Blues currently said to have the upper hand in the race (Sport via Sport Witness).

Coutinho’s agent, Kia Joorabchian, has already admitted that the 27-year-old would like to return to the Premier League next season (Sky Sports).

Balague has now asserted that Joorabchian is in the process of getting Coutinho a ticket back to England but admitted that nothing had been agreed so far.

Speaking to AFTV, Balague said: “What Coutinho and his representatives are doing, and that’s 100 per cent certain, is talking to Premier League clubs.

“He would like to go to the Premier League if he doesn’t stay in Barcelona. It’s all up in the air.”

The only way that I can see us landing Coutinho is if Barcelona agree to do a loan deal. We are unlikely to be in a position to complete a permanent transfer for the midfielder even if the Catalan giants lower their valuation. So, I am not particularly hopeful of this one going through.
