‘100 per cent’ – Darren Bent believes Spurs star would benefit from Arsenal move

Former Tottenham striker Darren Bent believes Dele Alli needs a new challenge after spending over five years in North London and believes that a move to rivals Arsenal might be what he needs to revive his career.

Dele has started just two of Tottenham’s opening five games of the season and has failed to even make the matchday squad for the other three matches.

Jose Mourinho has insisted that he is picking his team based on form and that it is up to Dele to get himself back into the team (Football.London).

While the Spurs boss has said that he expects the 24-year-old to stay at the club beyond the end of the transfer window, the midfielder continues to be linked with a move away from the club (RMC Sport).

Bent has urged the England international to leave Tottenham as he is too good to not be playing regularly.

Speaking to talkSPORT, the former Spurs striker said: “For players at times, he’s been at Tottenham for a while now, and I think maybe he’s a product of a process where he’s been at Spurs, they’ve got to the Champions League final, but other than that, there’s been a couple of top-four finishes.

“I think any player comes to a point where they need a fresh challenge. I think for Dele Alli, Mourinho has come in, they’ve clashed, and I think he’s thinking, ‘I need a new challenge here’ and I think he deserves that.

“He’s not going to be happy playing Carabao Cup games because they play Chelsea in the week and if they get beat that’s no more Carabao Cup. So are we saying we won’t see him in the Premier League for weeks and weeks?”

“We can’t wait until the FA Cup, so if I’m Dele Alli I’m looking at an option to get out of there.”

When asked if a move to Arsenal would be good for Alli, Bent responded: “100 per cent. I wouldn’t even hesitate.”

Spurs Web Opinion

A lot of people are being too quick to write Dele off. He has proven that he is mentally strong and I believe he will want to show Mourinho that he is good enough to get back into the team rather than exiting through the back door. Jose has also shown that he is willing to offer players a way back into the team if they can demonstrate the rights attributes. I expect Dele to be fired up if he starts against Chelsea this evening.
