£10million for Samba? Surely not!

You know the transfer widow has gone crazy when Tottenham Hotspur are rumoured to be willing to pay £10million for Blackburn’s Christopher Samba.

The central defender joined Blackburn in 2007 from Hertha Berlin for £400,000 and is now being linked with a switch to White Hart Lane as Harry Redknapp looks to solve his defensive crisis.

With Jonathan Woodgate, Michael Dawson and Ledley King all struggling to be fit for the start of the new Premiership season, Redknapp has already admitted that he is looking to bring in another central defender.

Surely there has to be better options available for £10million?

  1. The guy is really powerful from what i have seen of him he doesn’t read the game all that well though. But alongside King or Woody to show him the way he could be a useful addition.

As for £10mill only time will tell but i think its what we have come to expect and is the same price being banded around for Bassong who looked good in a very poor Newcastle team !!

  2. Always struck me as a consistent centre back who chips in with goals. Tall, Strong, Commanding Centre back with premier league experience and only 25 – sounds a great solution to me.

  3. I have a lot of respect for Samba as a defender – the entire Blackburn side were completely without confidence last season, and managed by a poor manager, but he and Nelson (Nelsen?) formed a good partnership and to be honest, would have done better with a better buffer in front of them. £10m is the going rate for a decent defender, so I don’t see that being much of an issue, tbh.

As I recall, he’s also fairly flexible (not the word I’m looking for!) – could perhaps be utilised as a defensive midfielder later on, and at 25, will only improve with a decent training regime. Bear in mind that Ledley, while a quality defender, is not going to be available every match, so having a quality understudy would be a great idea.

  4. I remember he finished the season up front for them…so if Crouch ever gets injured at least ‘Arry will have his tall ‘striker’ to go with Defoe!! :)

  5. why is it that we can never unearth players for £400,000. We always pay top dollar for players so surely our scouting system needs to be addressed! Either that or the club should start denying these ridiculous rumours. All summer we’ve had it.
