“I should race him” – Wycombe striker jokes of racing Spurs star following FA Cup draw

Wycombe striker Adebayo Akinfenwa has joked on social media about racing Gareth Bale after The Chairboys were drawn at home to Tottenham in the FA Cup fourth round.

Akinfenwa was part of the spirited Wycombe side that almost pulled off a shock result against Tottenham in the FA Cup back in 2017, and is seeking revenge for the late 4-3 defeat from four years ago when the two sides meet at Adams Park later this month.

The 38-year-old is renowned for his strength and physicality but has not been blessed with a huge amount of pace, unlike his counterpart Gareth Bale.

Whilst Bale may not possess the same electrifying pace that captured the eyes of European heavyweights Real Madrid, the Welshman is still a big problem for defenders who come up against the 31-year-old.

Gareth Ainsworth’s side surprised everybody last season when they earned an unexpected promotion from League One into the Championship for the first time in their history, and will be looking to cause an upset against Jose Mourinho’s side.

Spurs travel to Wycombe on January 23rd knowing that a win will earn them a trip to either Sheffield Wednesday or Everton in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Tottenham who already have a Carabao Cup final date with Manchester City to look forward to will be aiming to end their 30 year FA Cup drought, having last won the competition back in 1991.
