16-year-old Spurs starlet called up to England Under-19 squad

According to Football.London, Tottenham midfielder Alfie Devine has been called up to the England Under-19 squad for a training camp.

Devine has been extremely impressive since arriving from Wigan’s academy in the summer.

Not only has he stood out for the club’s Under-19s and Under-23s but the midfielder also made his senior bow this season and became the youngest goalscorer in Tottenham’s history (16 years and 163 days) when he netted in the 5-0 FA Cup third round win against non-league Marine.

The teenager has been part of the England Under-16 set up before but he has now been promoted to the Under-19 squad, leapfrogging three age groups.

Football.London reveals that left-back Dennis Cirkin, who has previously been spoken about in glowing terms by Jose Mourinho, has also been called up to the Under-19s training camp along with his Spurs team-mate.

When Mourinho said a couple of months ago that the best talents at the club were 16 and 17-year-old’s, I believe he was talking about Devine and Dane Scarlett. Not only does Devine possess technical quality but he also seems to have a nasty side which Jose will love.
