Spanish journalist claims Spurs have tabled offer for Barcelona forward

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Memphis Depay from Barcelona, according to Gerard Romero on Twitch.

The Spanish journalist claimed during his live stream on his Twitch channel, Jijantes FC (14/02/2022 – 1:52:20) that the Catalan giants have received an offer from Tottenham for the Dutch international and are keen to bring him back to the Premier League.

Depay only joined Barcelona on a Bosman move last summer after running down his contract at the end of a four-and-a-half-year stint at French outfit Lyon.

The 28-year-old was a regular for the Nou Camp side prior to his hamstring injury in November and also suffered an Achilles tendon issue in January which has seen him have to make do with limited game time from the bench in recent outings (transfermarkt).

Depay previously played in the Premier League with Manchester United, joining the Red Devils in 2015 for a reported £25m (Daily Mail).

He left Old Trafford in January 2017 after a difficult spell and went on to join Lyon for a fee of up to £22m and went on to score 76 goals and provide 55 assists in all competitions for the Ligue 1 club.

Tottenham are often found themselves struggling for goals when Heung-min Son and Harry Kane are not firing on all cylinders, it speaks volumes when own goals are our third-highest scorer this season behind the pair.

Whether Xavi and Barcelona would be prepared to cash in on Depay to help improve their financial situation remains to be seen and whether the player himself would potentially accept not playing Champions League football next season.
