’20 mil and he’s yours’ – Some Spurs fans react to Newcastle’s reported interest in player

Some Spurs fans on social media have urged Newcastle United to snap up Harry Winks on the back of reports that the Magpies are eyeing the midfielder.

It was reported during the summer transfer window that Winks was keen to stay at Spurs and fight for his place under Nuno Espirito Santo.

However, the 25-year-old has been consistently overlooked by the Portuguese coach so far, having started one Premier League game this season.

With a midfielder three of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Oliver Skipp and Tanguy Ndomebele showing a lot of promise in Tottenham’s last two Premier League outings, Winks faces an uphill task to force himself into the team.

The 25-year-old is alleged to have admirers in both the Serie A and La Liga ahead of the January transfer window.

The Sun reported this week that the Spurs academy graduate is also one of the names on Newcastle’s radar following their Saudi-led takeover.

The speculation linking him with the Magpies is music to the ears of some Spurs fans, who insisted that they would drive Winks to Newcastle themselves.

Spurs Web Opinion

Fans need to realise that confidence is a huge factor in elite level sport. It is never easy for a player who is lacking in confidence due to a lack of game time to come into the team once in a blue moon and drop an 8/10 performance.

Winks is nowhere near as bad a player as some Spurs fans seem to think. He can certainly be a useful player for a possession-based side. However, I do think it will be in everyone’s best interest for him to be sold as he looks like he could do with a fresh start.
