20-year-old implies he is ‘ready’ to play for Spurs in the Premier League next season

Destiny Udogie has thanked Udinese for the role they have played in his growth and admitted his excitement at the Premier League adventure that awaits him next season.

Spurs paid £20m to snap up Destiny Udogie from Udinese last summer on the back of his breakthrough season in Serie A and loaned the youngster back to the Italian club.

The North London club’s decision has been vindicated as he enjoyed another astounding campaign for Andrea Sottil’s side, impressing defensively as well as going forward.

The 20-year-old, who has featured most often as a left wing-back, has scored three goals and provided four assists in 33 league appearances this season (Transfermarkt).

Alasdair Gold said on his YouTube channel last week that although some at Tottenham feel that Udogie needs to improve the defensive side of his game, there is excitement around N17 regarding what he could do next season.

The youngster played all 90 minutes for Udinese in their final league game of the season as they fell to a 1-0 loss to Juventus on Sunday.

Speaking after the game, Udogie told the Italian club’s official website: “We all wanted the win and to end the season with a positive result in front of our fans.

“This is football – it’s a real shame. I have to thank the club so much for having invested and believed in me during these two seasons.

“All I want to say is thank you. I knew my qualities, I just wanted to express them and Udinese gave me this great chance. I am ready for the future and for the Premier League.”

Udogie’s form did dip during the last few months of the campaign but that was to be expected, given that Udinese had nothing to play for and he might have already had half an eye on next season.

The 20-year-old has a great chance of playing a prominent role at Tottenham if he can impress Ange Postecoglou during pre-season.
