21-year-old delighted to be back involved at Tottenham

Juan Foyth has insisted on the back of Spurs’ comprehensive win over Red Star in the Champions League on Tuesday that the players still have faith in the talent of the group.

The Argentine has missed the start of the campaign after suffering an ankle injury in pre-season against Bayern Munich.

He returned to first team training a couple of weeks ago and featured for Argentina in the international break at right-back, a position he played for Spurs towards the end of the last campaign.

He made his Spurs return on Tuesday replacing Jan Vertonghen during the second half as a central defender alongside Davinson Sanchez.

The 21-year-old was delighted to be involved in the match and get some game time under his belt.

Speaking to the club’s official website after the win, Foyth said, “Of course, it’s my first appearance of the season and I’m happy to play – it’s always nice to touch the ball and be involved.

“The lads did a fantastic job, we controlled the game and we deserved the win so it was a good game to have my first minutes of the season.

“Of course, it helped me a lot playing for Argentina too. I’m very grateful for the chance as it’s always nice to play – and for your country as well, it’s something special.”

The former Estudiantes defender also insisted that the players still have faith in the team’s ability and will continue giving their all to turn around their fortunes.

Foyth added, “Now we hope to continue building results (with the Club). I think the team is the same as last week, it’s just games.

“We can improve all the things we need to because we have a lot of faith in this group. We are all going to continue to give everything.”

If not for his injury, I believe Foyth would have been the team’s starting right back this season. He is quite adept at defending in one vs one situations and has a natural ability to glide past players in possession, which is why I believe he will thrive as a full back. I still expect him to make the right back slot his own by the end of the current season.
