21-year-old rumoured Spurs target praised for being ‘made of steel’ this week

Rumoured Tottenham target Manuel Ugarte is continuing to have an impressive season, with the youngster getting plenty of praise from the Portuguese press for his recent displays.

Ugarte has developed impressively since making the switch to Sporting 18 months ago, with the midfielder establishing himself as a mainstay in the middle of the park for the Portuguese giants this season.

Spurs saw first-hand what the 21-year-old is capable of when they came up against Sporting in the group stages of the Champions League earlier this season.

A Bola reported ahead of the January transfer window that Tottenham hold an interest in Ugarte and had even sent scouts to watch the midfielder at the World Cup, but unfortunately for the North London club, the youngster did not play a single minute in any of Uruguay’s three matches in Qatar.

However, the midfielder continues to deliver for Ruben Amorim’s side, with Record singling out the youngster for praise for his performance against Midtjylland in the Europe League.

Sporting were held a 1-1 draw in Portugal by the Danish side in the first leg, with the publication describing the display as ‘depressing and bordering on unacceptable’

However, they add that Ugarte was the only player who shone for the home side, writing that the Uruguayan turned in a ‘tireless’ performance and adding that he ‘looks like he’s made of steel’.

Spurs Web Opinion

Even if Paratici and his scouts are convinced that Ugarte is destined for stardom, I doubt if Tottenham will make a move for the midfielder in the summer after the Porro fiasco.

I do not think the North London club would want to deal with Sporting again anytime soon after the way they conducted themselves during those negotiations.
