23-year-old reveals midfielder explained how big a club Spurs are following interest

Cristian Romero has revealed that Giovani Lo Celso started to explain the lure of Tottenham Hotspur to him after hearing that the North Londoners were keen to sign the defender.

The pair were on international duty with Argentina at the Copa America when he learned of Tottenham’s interest.

Romero admitted that Lo Celso explained to him just how big a club Tottenham are along with how happy he is at the club.

The 23-year-old central defender has made the switch to the Premier League outfit on an initial loan deal from Atalanta, which includes the option to make the deal permanent for a £42.5million fee (Football.London).

Lo Celso also intially made the move to North London on a loan deal from Real Betis in the summer of 2019 with the club deciding to pay £27.2million to secure his signature on a permanent basis (BBC).

Romero told Spurs TV: “Ever since Gio knew about the interest from the club he started explaining to me how big the club is and how marvellous things are here.

“I think I’ve made the right choice and I hope to leave my mark here.”

Despite Lo Celso having had a difficult start to life in the Premier League, it is great to see him ‘selling’ the club to his team-mate.

Lo Celso enjoyed an upturn in form during January, but again saw his form dip. Hopefully, this season he can avoid injury and really show the short of form he displayed both at Betis and while representing Argentina.
