24-year-old insists he ‘never’ considered leaving Spurs in January

Davinson Sanchez has insisted that he never considered leaving Tottenham Hotspur during the January transfer window despite finding playing time hard to come by earlier in the season.

Most of Sanchez’s minutes in the first few months of the campaign were restricted to the Europa League and domestic cup competitions, with the Colombian not getting many starts in the Premier League.

Jose Mourinho seemed to have settled on a pairing of Toby Alderweireld and Eric Dier as his first choice, with Tottenham boasting of a very good defensive record until December and sitting at the top of the league table.

Sanchez was linked with a move away from Spurs in January but he ended up staying at the club and his decision now seems to have been vindicated.

The 24-year-old has now started all of Tottenham’s last three Premier League matches, putting in fantastic performances at the back for Mourinho’s men.

When asked if he considered leaving Tottenham in January, Sanchez told Football.London: “Never! I never considered leaving the club.

“Football can give you the chance to bounce back in situations and that’s what happened.

“I never said I had to play because I was before. Just be humble in that moment.”

Sanchez was getting a lot of flak from Tottenham fans on social media until a few weeks ago but the Colombian has demonstrated in the last three matches that he is a top-class player when he is on form. Hopefully, the 24-year-old has turned a corner and maintains the same standard of performances.
