24-year-old wins Tottenham’s Goal of the Season award

Steven Bergwijn has been awarded the Official Supporters’ Clubs Goal of the Year 2021/22 for his stoppage-time winner against Leicester City in January.

It has been a frustrating campaign for Bergwijn, who has struggled to get starts under his belt since Antonio Conte took over from Nuno Espirito Santo back in November.

However, the Dutchman has produced some moments of quality from the bench – none more dramatic than his late cameo at the King Power Stadium.

The 24-year-old scored two stoppage-time goals after coming on from the bench to help the Lilywhites turn a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 victory.

Unsurprisingly, Bergwijn’s winner, which saw him round Kasper Schmeichel and find the far corner off the post, has been voted the Goal of the Year by Spurs fans.

Meanwhile, Son Heung-min took home the Supporters Club, One Hotspur and Junior One Hotspur player of the season awards following Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Burnley on Sunday.

That goal from Bergwijn and Kane’s late winner at the Etihad are the two moments from this season that will live long in Spurs fans’ memory. The brace at the King Power Stadium looks likely to be Bergwijn’s final big contribution in a Spurs shirt.
