26-year-old linked with Tottenham scores a hat-trick for his national side

The reputation of rumoured Tottenham target Albert Gudmundsson continues to grow, with the attacker netting a hat-trick for Iceland in their Euro playoffs semifinal against Israel on Thursday.

Gudmundsson is having an outstanding campaign for Genoa, with the versatile attacking midfielder having taken his game to new heights in 2023-24.

Various Italian outlets have reported over the last couple of months that Tottenham are plotting a summer move for the 26-year-old (Gazzetta dello Sport).

In fact, last week, Calciomercato reported that Spurs are one of the clubs at the front of the queue for the Iceland international and that the North London side would be ready to meet Genoa’s demands for the player.

However, the Lilywhites are not alone in their admiration for the Genoa star, with various sources also suggesting over recent weeks that Juventus are keeping tabs on the midfielder (Tuttosport).

Gudmundsson nets hat-trick amidst Spurs links

Gudmundsson served another reminder of his quality on Thursday as he netted a hat-trick to take Iceland one step closer to the Euros.

Israel took the lead in the 30th minute but the Genoa star’s hattrick and another goal from Arnor Ingvi Traustason saw the Nordic side emerge comfortable 4-1 winners.

Iceland will now play Ukraine next Tuesday at the Stadion Miejski Wrocław Stadium in Poland, with the winner of that fixture sealing a place in the Euros.

This hattrick will potentially add a few million to Genoa’s asking price for Gudmundsson. Should Iceland overcome Ukraine and make it to the Euros, the Serie A side will wait until after the tournament to sell the attacking midfielder, knowing full well that his value could skyrocket if he does well in Germany.
