27-year-old PL star will ‘assess future’ this summer amid Spurs interest

Brentford goalkeeper David Raya has revealed that he will assess his future this summer amid links with Tottenham Hotspur.

Hugo Lloris demonstrated on Sunday just why Spurs are said to be on the lookout for his successor (Football.London), making yet another mistake in the north London derby at home to Arsenal.

Although Antonio Conte defended the Spurs captain after the 2-0 loss to the Gunners, insisting that he is one of the best goalkeepers in the world (Football.London), it has emerged since Sunday’s result that the Lilywhites are expected to ‘accelerate’ their search for a new number one rather than allowing the Frenchman to run down his contract (Daily Mail).

The Mail’s report explained that Tottenham are on the lookout for a goalkeeper who is good with the ball at his feet and can make good decisions under pressure, naming Raya as one of the players on the club’s wishlist.

The 27-year-old has come on leaps and bounds since joining the Bees back in 2019, even winning two caps for the Spanish national team last year.

Raya told Spanish news outlet AS: “Every player has goals and wants to improve. Now I am focused on my team and in the summer, we will see what happens.

“If they want to do business, they will have to do it but there is a long season left and I am only focused on doing it well. In the summer, we will assess my situation.”

While Jordan Pickford will likely be Tottenham’s top target to replace Lloris, the competition for the England number one will be quite intense next summer, with Chelsea and Man Utd also expected to be in the market for a number one.

Raya, along with Brighton’s Robert Sanchez and Leeds’ Illan Meslier, could be the other options on Spurs’ wishlist, and the Brentford star might prove to be the easiest to get out of those three, with his current contract only running until 2024.
