Harry Redknapp has claimed that Gareth Bale will be given his chance to impress when Benoit Assou-Ekotto heads to Angola for the African Nations Cup.
Assou-Ekotto is established as first choice left-back, with Redknapp describing him as the most improved player in his squad since he took over.
However, this form has earned him a call-up to the Cameroon squad in January, meaning he will miss a few games for Tottenham.
Redknapp has said that he will not be searching for another left-back and that Bale will be given his chance, as opposed to being loaned out for first-team football.
Redknapp said, “He’s worked hard, trained well and has been in good form.
“He’s beginning to take his game forward. It’s just that Benoit’s been in great form, so Gareth has been unlucky not to play.
“I’m not looking for a left-back because you won’t get a better one than Gareth Bale. He’s an excellent player.”
