Journalist Pete O’Rourke has said on Football Insider that Timo Werner has not done enough to convince Tottenham Hotspur to sign him permanently this summer.
Werner’s season came to a premature end in the North London Derby over a week ago after the forward picked up a hamstring injury that ruled him out of the remaining fixtures.
It remains to be seen whether the German will remain at Spurs beyond the end of the season. The North London side have the option to make the deal permanent for £15m, with the option being valid June 15 (TEAMtalk).
Last week, Ange Postecoglou admitted that the 28-year-old has had a positive impact since signing for the club but he insisted that a decision on the forward’s future will only be made at the end of the season depending on Tottenham’s overall summer plans (Football.London).

O’Rourke has now said that while Spurs will evaluate Werner’s situation at the end of the season, the former has not been ‘consistent enough’ on the pitch to fully convince Ange Postecoglou and the Tottenham hierarchy.
He says that the on-loan RB Leipzig man has seen his chance of a permanent deal ‘go up in smoke’, with Spurs set to look elsewhere this summer.
The journalist adds that the Lilywhites are set to look for younger players under the age of 24 this summer, with an eye on building a team for the future.

This seems like an opinion from O’Rourke rather than being based on any information that he has heard from sources within Spurs.
I can see Tottenham spending decent money on a top-class winger such as Nico Williams this summer, which would likely come as a blow to Werner’s chances of sealing a permanent move.
