35-year-old admits he would rather manage Spurs than Real Madrid or Barcelona

Former Tottenham midfielder Sandro has said that he would love nothing more than to be the manager of Spurs one day, admitting that the club still holds a special place in his heart.

Sandro arrived at Spurs from Internacional in Brazil and although he took a while to establish himself in the team, he went on to put in many impressive displays in the heart of Tottenham’s midfield at quite a young age.

At the time, it seemed like he was on course to become one of the best number sixes in the world, with his tenacity and strength on the ball earned him the nickname ‘the beast‘ from Spurs fans.

However, injuries took his tole on the Brazilian and he eventually fell out of favour at White Hart Lane, with his exit from the club coinciding with Mauricio Pochettino’s arrival in the summer of 2014.

The midfielder’s career did not deliver what it promised, with constant injuries becoming a regular theme for the 35-year-old, who finally hung up his boots last summer after unsuccessful spells at QPR, West Brom, Antalyaspor, Benevento, Genoa, and Udinese.

Sandro would love to manage Tottenham one day

Sandro has now spoken about his love for the Lilywhites and confessed his dream is to sit in the Tottenham dugout one day.

He told Gianluca di Marzio: “My dream is not to coach Barcelona or Real Madrid but Tottenham. I’m only 35 years old and have a lot of time ahead of me. I am aware that I have to work my way up first. But my goal is the Tottenham bench, which I consider the best club in London.

“Just look at what President Daniel Levy has done over the years, building the new training centre and stadium. The club fights every year to enter the Champions League. Tottenham lacks nothing and now year after year they will build an increasingly competitive team.”

In this age of constant turnover and football increasingly becoming a business rather than just a sport, it is very rare to find players who genuinely love the club as much as fans do.

Sandro is a rare example of one such player, who wore his heart on his sleeve, which is Tottenham fans revered him. One can tell that the club still means the world to the Brazilian.
