54-year-old says he would be happy to return to Spurs and help Ryan Mason

Speaking to talkSPORT, former Tottenham Hotspur manager turned pundit Tim Sherwood insisted Antonio Conte should be sacked, and said he would be happy to help Ryan Mason in the interim.

Conte’s time at Tottenham may well be coming to an end, after the Italian shocked the media with an explosive press conference last weekend (Football.London).

As a result, a report from The Telegraph suggested Conte will lose his job by the end of this week.

It is thought Mason would step in as caretaker manager until the end of the season in the event of Conte’s departure.

Mason previously took charge of the first team back in 2021, after Jose Mourinho was sacked by the club. He has remained a coach at Spurs and holds a positive relationship with the playing squad.

According to Sherwood, Conte’s comments cannot go unpunished and he thinks the Italian will be removed sooner rather than later.

He said: “When you criticise the club as he has done… You can’t let the tail wag the dog, for that length of time and say that many things about the ownership of the football club.

“I think they have to (sack Conte) and I believe they will get rid of him. But, Daniel Levy will only do what’s right for the football club.

The former Spurs boss is currently 100-1 to return as manager, to which he joked “Sounds like I have a chance then, don’t I?”

Jokes aside, Sherwood did say he would “absolutely” go back to Spurs and help Mason out if needed.

I can’t see Antonio Conte surviving such a public outburst like that and it’s surely only a matter of time until he is gone.

As for Sherwood, I don’t think Mason will be short of help so he can probably stick to punditry for now.
